Your friends are a mirror of yourself |

This weekend I heard a great quote--Show me your friends and I will show you yourself. Do your friends lack substance; are they superficial; do they contribute to your spiritual and emotional growth? Yesterday, I went to see Al Gores movie, An Inconvenient Truth, about Global Warming and a must see for everyone; but, what really excited me was that I could have a conversation afterwards with my closest friends. They are so on point with everything!
Have you done a friendship check? I have, and I was ecstatic to see that the people around me are those I aspire to be like and they like me. Aristotle said it best--a friend is a single soul dwelling in two bodies.
If you want to change your circle, then join Spiritually Speaking for Sister Socials a great way to meet quality people with something to say and contribute.

Are you materialistic? |

It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his NOT understanding it. Upton Sinclair
I first heard this quote on television and thought that it was so accurate in todays society. How many of us have careless disregard for others simply because of what we would have to risk. I personally believe that materialism, the theory or attitude that physical well-being and worldly possessions constitute the greatest good and highest value in life, is destroying the body of Christ from the inside out. My prayer is that the mere fact that you are on this website means you do not support this theory, but then again, only you know?
Tony Evans said it best that we must adjust our feelings to our faith, and not our faith to our feelings.
CHALLENGE: Do something for someone else today, Christ did.

Steps 4 Success… |

Last summer I had the opportunity to meet John C. Maxwell at the Willow Creek Leadership summit. John C. Maxwell is a world renowned speaker and lecturer to Fortune100 companies and countries on leadership, and he's written more than 30 books. He is also a former pastor. During Maxwell's speech, he remarked how a gentleman asked how he knew so much about leadership and Maxwell said it's in the bible.
I tell that story because if I were to tell you that there was a sure fire way to become successful in all aspects of your life what would you say? Would you listen? Well there is... and it's in the bible? And I'm going to prove it.

Pimp or prophet |

Prophet or Pimp... the term has been circulating a lot lately. Topics like Has the clergy "sold out" the body from radio personalities like Michael Baesdan, plague the airways. Let's face it, no one can deny that the mega churches, planes, Rolls Royce, marble desks are a concern for the church.
1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. Are we sacrificing the integrity of the church for the materialism of the world?
What is integrity? Integrity is a strict personal honesty and independence. When I hear the word integrity very few pastors come to mind—Billy Graham, my former pastor John Cherry, and my current pastor Keith Battle of Zion Church. Who do you think of...?

Success is Divinely Designed |

Success is many things to many people, but I define success as our personal measure for a desired outcome. Throughout life, I've observed a consistent development process that occurs in route to success—being Humbled, being Positioned, and being Promoted.
Humble: the Hebrew word for humble means to subdue or become low. Humble is our brokenness or lower place where we end and we allow God to begin. Position: is our preparation place. It's our time of testing, sharpening, pruning…our grooming period before we are catapulted to promotion. Promote: is where the spirit of faith and God’s place of preparation collide; and we begin walking into our season, the fruit of our existence... our destiny. By the world's standard, the literal meaning of this place is called SUCCESS. Look at your life, are you being humbled, positioned, or promoted?

Meek Isn't Weak! |

Recently, we buried someone very dear to us, Rosa Parks, the mother of the Civil Rights movement and Coretta Scott King. As I heard people remark about Miss Parks and Mrs. King, the resounding statement was how humble, beautiful and purposeful they were. Often in life we consider those who have the most to say and who say it the loudest to be the most productive and powerful people…but God doesn’t. Miss Parks and Mrs. King enable all of us to stand tall. Their meek spirits ignited a movement that changed a nation.
Three personality attributes of a meek spirit are:
- A calm temper (not easily provoked)
- A slave-like submission to God (NOT man)
- A spirit free from rebellion and pride (no drama, no arrogance)
I believe meekness is power under control. Do you embody patience and humility... are you meek or loud?

I was quite disturbed when Michael Baisden said his show on Adoption had only 20 people in the chat room, yet his show on The Pleasure Principal: Female freaks enticed 500 people. Yes, I sometimes listen to Michael Baisden, not for content, but for the pulse of the community…and I must say I am a little disturbed. I know he does not speak for an entire community, but the fact that he speaks for anyone is still quite disturbing. We have a lot of work to do; even those of us who don’t believe we do. I don’t pretend to know the answers, but I can say the conscientiousness is certainly lacking.
